New or Used Stair Lift?  Which should I buy as the best purchase value?

New, Used or Reconditioned Stairlift?

Buy a New or Used Stair Lift?

Can't decide on whether you should buy a new, used or reconditioned stairlift? Because every staircase is different, and people's requirements differ, a stair lift must be tailored to meet the solutions to individual needs. Because your stairlift must be manufactured especially for you and to your staircase dimensions in a factory, it will be built to your own specifications with your individual options to suit your requirements and budget.

Stair lifts are a custom made product.

The track is cut to the length of your stairs and custom made based on which side of the staircase to mount the unit. For factory installation, a visit from an experienced surveyor must measure your stairs and talk you through the options available. For self installation, it is therefore essential that you follow the measurement guidelines and double check before placing your order.

Cheap is not always cheerful

If something is too good to be true, it probably isn't. An offer to get you the cheapest used stairlift may be giving you a stairlift that is unsuitable for you and your needs. When buying a new stairlift from Acorn, you know that it will be manufactured specifically to you and your needs. This means that you'll be receiving brand new parts and a 12 month warranty as standard.

Which is superior, new or used?

Because an Acorn Stairlift is tailor made to be the perfect solution for troubles getting up and down your stairs it will be the superior option. Why is a new stairlift the superior option? A new Acorn Stairlift will be specifically made to fit your staircase , customized to suit your personal needs, fit to your stairs properly, has a custom built rail to fit your staircase perfectly, will come with 12 months warranty and replacement parts will be readily available and still in production

Why a reconditioned stairlift can be trouble

Because a stairlift is reconditioned (used), there can be problems you will naturally encounter such as a lesser warranty package, if any, stair lifts are difficult to transfer across staircases, parts are harder to come by, older stairlift models may be unsupported because the model is obsolete, and the stair lift may require frequent services as parts will be worn, which would result in longer wait times for help

Acorn Stairlifts are designed with Innovative Technology State of the Art built in Safety Features

The following are undesirable features not found on Acorn Stairlifts which may be on a used or reconditioned stairlift. Acorn Stairlifts will not compromise your safety with the following stairlift attributes.

A stair lift with the following features might be more trouble than it is worth.

A Cable, Chain or Rope hauled stair lift will be noisy with a jolty movement and oily. A stairlift which has a trailing Mains Power cable can be unreliable and won't work in a power outage cut and will be time consuming to install. A stair lift which is not DC Powered will lack smoothness while in motion and cannot be operated when there is a power cut. A stair lift with no Swivel Seat is outdated and potentially hazardous particularly at the top of your stairs. It is also difficult to get on and off the stairlift.  A stair lift with no Rack & Pinion Drive will lack stability and be noisy. A stair lift with no Over Speed Governor is unprotected from an uncontrolled descent, if a major drive system failure should occur. And a stair lift which does not have a status display system makes it impossible for you to diagnose a fault without a costly home visit each time there is a fault with the stair lift
